Henry Ford Learning Institute is an innovative nonprofit organization that envisions a future where public education becomes a truly public endeavor, engaging a community to create vibrant educational models, leverage underutilized local resources, and remove boundaries between learning and the real world. To this end, HFLI is creating innovative small schools that bring national and local community resources into the educational process and help to create thriving communities where education is everyone's responsibility. All of the small schools in HFLI’s national network are based on the highly successful Henry Ford Academy (HFA) high school model, which was first implemented at Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn, Michigan. Henry Ford Academy: Dearborn was launched in 1997and has since graduated eight classes of seniors. The Academy has a cumulative graduation rate of more than 90 percent; 100 percent of its graduating classes of 2007, 2008 and 2009 were accepted to colleges and universities. In 2008, HFLI opened Henry Ford Academy: Power House High, a charter high school developed in partnership with Homan Square, an award-winning community development project on the site of the original Sears, Roebuck and Co. world headquarters in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. HFA: Power House High is chartered by Chicago Public Schools. HFLI opened two more Henry Ford Academies in 2009. Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies is a 6-12 public school academy in Detroit that is a partnership with the College for Creative Studies. HFA: School for Creative Studies is chartered by Grand Valley State University. Henry Ford Academy: Alameda School for Art + Design is a charter high school in San Antonio that is a partnership with The Alameda National Center for Latino Arts and Culture, the nation’s first affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. HFA: Alameda School for Art + Design is chartered by the Texas Education Agency. To learn more please visit us at www.hfli.org.
